Deep Thoughts: FML

I gave Argentinian Juan Martin del Potro zero chance of defeating Roger Federer. I figured Federer, owner of the U.S. Open, would take the final in straight sets.

When I think of Federer, I think of the saying: "the relentless pursuit of perfection." And I want him not to deviate from that path. I want him to be perfect. I want him to be, without a doubt, the best tennis player to have ever played the game. While in every other scenario as a fan I cheer for the underdog, I find it impossible not to root for Roger Federer. It shouldn't, and it sounds rather juvenile, but it sucks when he loses.

Here's hoping he takes the Aussie. Greatest Tennis Player of All-Time. GTPAT ...

You can add last night's ridiculous Buffalo Bills vs. New England Patriots Monday nighter to the list of Bills-related nightmares I suffer from. Some night's it's Scott Norwood's "wide right." Other nights, Troy Aikman. Sometimes Emmitt Smith makes an appearance. One of the worst is a trip down "Music City Miracle" lane. Even the 2007 Monday night epic failure at home to Dallas stings in ways it probably shouldn't.

It's amazing how many different ways the Bills have found to kick their collective fan base in the nuts. And each time hurts just as much, if not more, than the one before it.

Growing up, a young eyebleaf and his older brother became Bills supporters because two of our best friends (the same age as big bro and I, and our respective tennis doubles partners) had family in Buffalo, and were fans by proxy. Without a home team to cheer for (sorry Boatmen), we hopped along for the ride. Who knew it would be so tragic?

Thankfully those four Super Bowl losses happened when I was nine through 12 years old. Little time, and emotion, had been invested then. Imagine, now, watching the Toronto Maple Leafs lose four straight times in the Stanley Cup Final? I'm not sure I'd ever recover.

There aren't many people in this world whom I'd wish Buffalo Bills fandom upon. It's not the best way to live. I hate you today, Leodis McKelvin. And you too, Tom Brady ...

The Toronto Blue Jays. Those bastards. Unfortunately, they're still playing. And you knew you could count on them to blow a 5-2 lead, and add to an already miserable Monday night.

You know why people are sick to death of this team? You know why nobody is showing up at the SkyDome? Because Brian Wolfe has pitched 12.1 innings this season, while Jeremy Accardo has pitched only six and two-thirds more. That's bullshit, plain and simple. And there is no excuse. There can't be for not be fielding the best possible team, night in and night out.

Errors be damned, Marco Scutaro is still the man. Yeah, he fucked up last night. Yeah, his .770 August OPS and .598 September OPS aren't exactly worthy of phone calls home. But he'll have to mail it in a lot worse than that for me to start taking away from what he's been able to accomplish in 2009.

The Blue Jays cannot play out the stretch soon enough. If you're not depressed enough, read the most recent from Jeff Blair.

I don't know about you, but I'm doing my best to forget this season ever happened. I'm looking towards the future. Stay tuned, either late today, or Wednesday morning, for a Q&A between 2009 Blue Jays third-round draft pick Jake Marisnick and the few, the proud, the Blue Jays blogosphere.

The Bills look like they'll be competitive this season, can't wait to get down to the Ralph and get shit-faced!

Yesterday was indeed a depressing day. I was going to blog about the Federer match but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Too many missed opportunities that gave Del Potro the confidence he needed. Let's just pretend it never happened.

The Jays lose in fine one run fashion again. I've been finding it harder and harder to keep watching. I didn't even check the game until the bottom of the 9th when there were runners at the corners and Frasor was up against Huff...We all know how that turned out. Switch channel...

To the Bills game. I'm not a Bills fan but I HATE the Pats. It's in the 4th and the Bills drive it all the way down for a TD. Break out the salami and cheese mama, this ball game is over, right? I turn it off. Ten minutes later I get a message from my bandwagon-jumping friend (Pats, Wings & Yanks fan...) asking if I saw the game because Brady is insane.

Lastly, as a Bears fan, not only did I have to sit and watch Jay Cutler impersonate Joey Harrington on Sunday night but on Monday I find out that Urlacher is out for the season?

I seriously hate the Patriots. Not sure why I bothered watching the Bills game, as I am a Giants fan. What a painful loss though.

As for the Jays, the rest of the season now is about individual accomplishments. Lind is close to 30 HR's and has already reached the 100RBI plateau.

Here's to hoping Hill ends off just as strong as the rest of his season has been. He need 2 RBI for 100 also so that will be nice to see.

What do you think the chances are they keep Halladay?

I also turned the Bills/Patriots game off after the Bills' fourth quarter touchdown. I grew up a Bills' fan from the Kemp days to the O. J. Simpson days. Upon moving to New England, I started watching the Patriots (back in the Grogan days). So this past ten years have been pretty sweet (except for the Giant game). Even so, the Bills' loss was heartbreaking. They had it! And then found a way to lose it. Poor blighters.

Hope Hill gets over 100 RBI soon. That has been a nice story. Rob Neyer wrote another Blue Jays piece. Mostly rehashing the Halladay-non-trade. It seemed pretty fair. I noticed he was hesitant to completely blame Ricciardi (the eyebleaf affect I presume after Posnanski).

As for Federer...{shrug} don't follow tennis that much.

Until Toronto gets a team the NFL has no meaning for me...

OK, Juan, let's see what you've got...not sure I'm crazy about him, but maybe he can prove me wrong in this Open...Wow, that is just too awful, what’s wrong with this world. She probably and defiantly had a future and it’s all taken away…

@ SL: The Bills look like they'll finish 8-8, or 9-7. Mediocrity, FTW!!!1 But I too look forward to going down to the Ralph and drunkenly singing "THE BILLS MAKE ME WANNA SHOUT, GET YOUR HANDS UP AND SHOUT, COME ON NOW, HEY EH HEY EH, HEY EH HEY EH, THE BILLS ARE MAKING IT HAPPEN NOW; SHOUT!!1"

@ Hungry: Another amazing aspect to Federer is how gracious he is in defeat. He's such a fucking gentleman. As for the Jays, it was the Sausage King and Scoots who let us down last night. And I can't be mad at 'em. They been huge all year. RE: Buffalo; deep down, I knew there was a way they could lose that game, and they found it. Bastards. And my condolences about Urlacher. He's by no means the player he used to be, but that's a tough one.

@ Leiter: Christina!!1 I hate the Patriots, too. I hate all New England area sports teams. Losing to them in that fashion makes it all the more difficult. As for the Jays, it's hard to believe that they'll have two 30 HR, 100 RsBI guys on the team, and neither of them are Alex Rios and Vernon Wells. What a season. And, the way things are looking, I think the chances of them keeping Halladay are very, very slim. Why would he want to stick around? He wants to win. It isn't happening here, not unless Rogers says they'll spend upwards of $120 million next year. And even I, eternal optimist, have trouble believing that. He must be traded this off-season to get anything of substance in return. I'll be going down to the dome next week to say goodbye. I'm ready. It's for the best.

@ William: Poor blighters, indeed. And that's a nice change of pace, eh, from the Bills to the Pats? RE: Neyer; he gets it. He was one of the few who didn't completely dump all over JP. And you're damned right it's the "eyebleaf effect." Hard to believe that all went down with Pos. Good times. Blogging highlight of the year for me, that's for sure.

@ Mattt: Toronto does have an NFL team, mate: the Bills. And thanks for the well wishes. I'm old, yo.

@ jadejohnh: I need a vacation. I'm going to check out your website. And I have no idea what you're talking about at the end of your comment, there. SPAM!!!!1

Way to air out the grievances. I can't imagine the Bills finding a worse way to blow a game, but there's always next week. Did you hear what Patick Kane did to McKelvin's lawn?

Hang in there buddy. Only 15 more Bills losses till Jauron is fired.
