I'm really going to miss this guy. Plus, the Blue Jays just lost their cleanup hitter and their batter with the best AVG. Viva La Rolen.

The right move for a rebuilding organization. But I'll miss his professionalism, not to mention his defence, greatly. Plus, now we won't be able to hear Coldplay as intro music.

right move for the organization? WTF did we get back? some middle relief pitching (dont the jays have liek 10000 mediocre middle relief pitchers anyways?) and a 3b who wont be on the team next year?

today is the day i ofically shut it down on the jays season. ive lost all faith. fuck retardi

Isn't Encarnacion on the team next year? He's no star (and it seems he's not very good defensively) but he's a potentially solid bat. If the Jays aren't committed to adding payroll next year, then adding Marcum and hopefully stronger years from Snider and the young gun pitchers wasn't going to be enough to put them over the top. If you're going to rebuild, rebuild, if you're going to go for it, go for it. I don't know what we're doing though, which is why I'm a little sad that Halladay will get stuck with a mediocre team again next year (until the deadline anyway).

You're probably right about the prospects though.

The least they could have done was to trade a great contributor like Rolen to a contender instead of the Blue Jays mirror image. No knock on the Blue Jays but the Reds have as much chance as the Jays this year. The guy gave the Jays so much, the least they could have done is to send him to a team with a chance.

my mistake, i thought edwin was a FA next year, but hes just arbitration eligible.

still hate this trade, its honestly like Vince all over again.

I am so sad that GBOAT is gone. I will miss his brilliant defense and clutchness so much. Hope Cincy takes good care of him.

kushnir, in the VC trade the raps got 2 guys who were 8th man players in the Williams duo. Here we get someone who is a starter (albeit a shitty one) and some bullpen help.

Kush, are you fucking kidding me bro? The Vince Carter trade? I want what you're smoking.

ROLEN ASKED FOR A TRADE!1 You should applauding "Retardi" for granting the GBOAT's request. And this is the second time Rolen has asked to be traded from a team.

You've got to do your homework before you rip the trade, and rip the GM. The Jays have a ton of "soft-tossers": Marcum, Litsch, Richmond, Janssen; guys who are good pitchers, but who will not rack up the Ks. They pitch to contact, not to the strikeout. By all accounts, the two guys Ricciardi got in this deal are hard throwers, who throw the heat. One of them could be our closer of the future. Stewart is rocketing through the Reds' system, and could be a huge piece for us in the future.

And, seriously, did you think the Jays were going to sign Rolen after his contract expired?

I will absolutely miss Rolen. William -- I don't know why Rolen wanted to go to Cincy, but he waived his NTC to go, so the Jays didn't really "send" him.
EE will be a mess in the field compared to Hoss, but potential as a hitter suggests he might be alright. Stewart looks like a very solid pitching prospect from minor league stats, but seems likely to be a reliever despite some starts.
Hopefully the saved costs are put to good use, though I read that there was cash involved from the Jays side, so we'll see.

"[Rolen] mentioned he's got some personal things he's dealing with and if we could move him to a spot closer to his home, if we would take that into consideration, and we did," said Ricciardi. "It ended up working out really well for us."

Rolen just wanted to go home. This trade worked out for both sides.

The Jays are picking up what's left on his contract for this season. Next season, the Reds pay his full salary.

The fact that Ricciardi can still get shit for this trade blows my mind.

Eyeb - I hadn't seen your post while putting mine together and getting sidetracked. I'm with you on this one, though -- there is nothing wrong with this trade, but it doesn't spell a 2010 run unless EE hits at full potential and the extra cash is meant to enhance another position. All these guys should be in the Jays' hands for some time.

I started to follow Jay's games because of him. I am so heart-broken.

Whoa what? I rarely diaagre with you eyeb, but Marcum has a career K/9 of 7.1 Its not dazzling and hes by no means a flame-thrower, but tell that to people breaking their backs on his change-up (come back Shaun).

ok, maybe i over-reacted a little. the VC thign was waaay out of proportion and i take it back (nothing could be that bad).

Its obviously not that bad of a trade, but it just contiunes the "no-plan" plan of the jays. where are we heading? next year, with rolen, theoritically we could have a chance to compete.

im not saying that with rolen we would win a championship, but make up ur fuckign mind. half this team is a contender, the other half is a rebuild, the same its been for the last 10 years. make up ur mind, sell off ur assets and rebuild, or spend some money and go get a player or two.

all this did was help the jays continue to be mediocre for the next 5 years

Scott Rolen was the man that reinvigorated my interest in baseball. I hadn't watched a full Jays game on TV since the strike back in '94. I happened to come across a a game in early May and saw Scott's defensive performance at third and I was back in the game! I'm saddened that he's not on the team. He was a quiet leader by example.
