The Hockey Sweater

Well, I finally did it. After years of saying I would, and after years of putting it off, yesterday, at last, it happened.

It's true: I'm the proud new papa of my very own Tomas Kaberle jersey. Ain't she a beauty?

It was a tough call, Kaberle over Luke Schenn. But, at the end of the day, it had to be done. Not enough people in this town pay homage to the man who was drafted 204th overall back in '96, and who has played 738 games on the blue line for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

What's that? No, asshole, Kabby's not being traded. And even if he is dealt, it doesn't change a thing. Kaberle is, and shall remain, one of the best defenceman to ever play for the Leafs. I will represent #15 with pride.

Whether you love the Leafs or hate them, you have to admit, there's something about that sweater. It's classic; the perfect jersey.

Anyway, you know this momentous occasion wouldn't be complete without the world famous ode to Tomas Kaberle, the lyrics to which I may or may not have completely memorized ...

The best $129.99 I've ever spent. Kabby for life, yo.

Nice choice...much better defenseman than I stupidly got on mine...I need a new one now!!!

I understand he make cross ice pass like you won't believe...

Nice get, and good on you. You're right, TK does get shortchanged by a lot of people.

A thing of beauty.

Isn't it strange how one can get so much joy out of dropping so much money on a piece of clothing?

beautiful. i've got the away one myself, and i'm always amazed that i never see anyone else with a kabby jersey when i go to games. lots of mccabe jerseys though.

whether he gets traded or sticks around, "Kaberle 15" on the back will always be legit. nice work.

Luke will try harder to win your affection. :(

Pretty f'in sweet, ebl. Scored my Grabs jersey last Christmas time at the game and my pre-stitched options were Blake, Tosk, Kabs and Schenn. I wasn't yet sold on Schenner (it was only Christmas!) and was still smarting from the McCabe debacle, so I stayed away from Kabby's.
Full respect for doing it up like that.
Besides, I had no idea about the drama that was about to unfold between Grabs and the Gangsta-Habs! That part was just lucky.

@ Wrap & BK: Perfect, stunning, beautiful and gorgeous. I'm in complete agreement.

@ Tank: I'm assuming you're repping McCabe? Still not a bad choice, IMO.

@ Junior: You're correct in your understanding of his cross-ice passing abilities. Dude's crazy! And, yes, the more of us in Kabby jerseys, the better.

@ LJ: It is crazy, to spend that amount of money on, essentially, a top, that can only be worn in certain situations. I'm a sucker for them, though. I picked up the powder blue Jays uni last year. I'm on a one crazy expensive jersey quota a year, I guess.

@ daoust: First you rep Sundin, now I learn you rock the Kaberle digs. You're a good man.

@ Chemmy: This choice certainly isn't a knock against Luke. Kaberle's just held my heart for many, many years. Schenn and Kadri are next...

@ Sergei: Mickey Grabs. Excellent choice. I think we'll be seeing more of his jersey around town. Kid's a rudey.

She is pretty, but I would have had a hard time passing on a Schenn sweater. I hope that 15 lives forever for you man.

I might be the one leafs fan alive that still loves mccabe.
Good on you, Kabby will be a leaf for another couple years, we have ZERO power play without him.

I'm waiting for the "C" to be on his jersey before i buy a #2 ;)

I'm not sure where my earlier comment went, but needless to say I approve :)

I was just checking out the jerseys at the Leafs NHL shop site, and I seriously considered purchasing the exact same jersey. Of course, the fact that it is the only one on sale right now had nothing whatsoever to do with my decision, and was simply very fortunate for someone who loves Kabby as much as our beloved eyebeleaf. ;)

You're one of the great fans, Nav.

Now hopefully this means you've finally banished the Wellwood, size XS.

Kaberle could eventually make my top 5 favorite Leafs players, especially if he stays and plays at least a few more seasons.

One of my favorite things about Kabby is that he can launch a puck 200 feet right at the net to avoid an icing when so many players cant hit the net from 25 feet out!

I don't normally get a jersey with names on them as I am first and formost about the team.

I have a feeling that a Schenn Jersey may be purchased during this season, tho. Probably get the 'C' on it as a preemptive measure

Hope to see you wearing that the next time we invade Montreal!

I still have my Grant Fuhr jersey. I don't give a shit what anybody says, I loved that guy when he played here.....especially when he turned into Dave Andreychuck! ;)

Sheeeeeeeeit, a Greener sighting. That shit's rare. And the Wellwood jersey is framed, and on the wall, where it deserves to hang in all eternity.

Thanks for all the comments. Mad Kaberle love. Somewhere, our boy Tomas is smiling.

You are appreciated, Kabby. Keep doing what you're doing.

Matter of fact, this is the first jersey with a player's name and number that I've ever bought. My Sundin jersey, circa 1999, was a gift from my boys, years ago. So, I just popped my name jersey buying cherry, and I can't think of a better guy than Kaberle for it to be.

I love Tomas Kaberle.

I may or may not be wearing the jersey right now. (I so am.)

I was just told that Eklund says Kaberle might be traded TODAY. I know, I know... fuck Eklund, etc. But... can you imagine? You have to admit that would be hilariously ironic. OK, you don't have to admit that, but I will.

Simple, understated elegance. Kind of like Kaberle's play, actually.

Where did you find that for $129? I saw a Schenn jersey the other day with the name and numbers stitched on instead of pressed but they wanted $189 for it. I still might by it though.

@ FireRonWilson: Fanattic, Markville Mall, out in Markham. Sick deals!
