I was only 10 years old at the time, but I'm quite certain Dougie Gilmour's 1992-1993 season was the finest, ever, by a Toronto Maple Leaf.
Looking back, there really was something special about Killer. The Leafs don't retire numbers, but I'd be surprised if anyone ever wears #93 in the blue and white again.
The Leafs enjoyed some great playoff runs during the Pat Quinn era. Those were good times. But Toronto's magical run in 1993, led by the warrior Gilmour, can truly be called "the good old days."
I miss those days.

I still remember clearly when Doug Gilmour ran past me one day.
I was coming home from Dentonia golf course and I was holding my clubs in front of the Dominion on Bloor/Sussex. Some guy was jogging to my right coming at me so I turned around and I was staring at Doug Gilmour. I didn't say a word just stood there staring. I knew who he was and he knew I knew who he was. I didn't make a scene. He gave me a smile and headnod. I was in shock and gave him a blank stare.
Dude is straight up the man!!!
On The Fence Sports
I love him. Brings back memories of love and hate... love cuz that year was special... and hate cuz of how we got jobbed by Fraser. Still pisses me off... that was the year. Best game ever of my "career" as a Leafs fan, was game 7 vs Detroit... when I beat up that annoying kid at Curren's house for saying the Leafs suck and were gonna lose.
i was at that game vs st louis. fell asleep for most of the 3rd period and OT, but woke up about 3 min before that goal. oh wow what a memory.
on a side note. you see that fist pump by jose last night after his late 3 ball? attaboy!
Glad to hook you up Slick... now add us to that Blogroll Mister!
How's the big city? I miss it out here in BC...
@ On The Fence: I think we all remember meeting Doug Gilmour. I met him at The Bay at the Eaton Centre, years and years ago. Me, my brother, two of my boys, and my mom. We waited in line for a long, long time. But it was worth it. Dougie was the truth.
@ Brother: I think game 7 vs Detroit was the game of your career. That kid was so fucking annoying. And I remember watching the game in the bedroom, and going ape shit when Borschevsky scored. I wish we could meet that kid now, and you could tell him off again. Good times.
@ Kushnir: I can't believe you were at the game. I can't believe you fell asleep during the third and overtime. You better have been like 5 years old, man, because sleeping in the playoffs, WHEN YOU'RE AT THE GAME, is a sin.
And, yes, thank the fucking good Lord that Jose is back, because the Raptors bloody suck.
@ Spencer: Done and done, mate. And the big city is freezing like a mother fucker. The type of cold that makes you sad to be alive.
@ eyebeleaf
I was 4.
That was a magical year to be a Leafs fan, for sure. || <- that close to a Leafs/Habs final, too...... gah.
Oh, and I doubt we'll see anyone wear #17 again, either... Only one man's worn it since '85...
man do I miss those good'ol days.
@ Kushnir: Four years old. We're cool, then, young fella.
@ Felix (the cat?): It was magical, and the way it all ended is indeed deserving of a "gah."
And I'm pretty sure #93, #17 and #13 are numbers that are as retired as they possibly can be, without actually being retired.
@ TheRev: Don't we all, bro. Don't we all...
I'm looking forward to a review of this weekend's NHL All Star festivities. Personally, I think that Trick Shot competition was totally overrated, but that's just me. :)
