To Do List

Let me guess. You probably thought you'd never live to see a black president.

And that the Tampa Bay Devil Rays would win the pennant last year.

Impossible is nothing. As a Toronto sports fan, and the writer of this here blog, I have no choice but to keep telling myself that.

Frankly, I'm fed up of being told that the Toronto Blue Jays' 2009 season is over before a pitch has been thrown, and a bat has been swung. I'm sick and tired of all the negativity.

It's January. There is absolutely no way my optimism for the upcoming baseball season can be crushed in January. Regardless of how brutal the off-season has been. I will not let it happen.

Blue Jays baseball: You gotta believe. Remember?

If you'd rather not believe, and would prefer to incessantly bitch about J.P. Ricciardi's Rogers-induced flaccid off-season, please, do me a solid: shut the fuck up.

*UPDATE*

My friend, rude-boy, loyal Sports And The City reader, and all-around ill cat, 40, provided a link in the comments section to the video below. Watch it. If it doesn't get you excited about 2009 Blue Jays baseball, you need to check yourself.

You wrote 2010 wrong.

I'm down with that scene. Fuck, at least give me until July to write off the season as a "the kids are growing" year.

Seriously, even if it gets bad, we can look forward to another year of Doc (unless....), Marcum, McGowan, Litsch, Cecil/Purcey/Romero......Snider, Lind, Rios, Hill, Wells (unless....). We've got pieces dude.

You can't see me, but I'm nodding my head.

The Leafs have a better chance of making the playoffs this year than the Jays do.

How much do you love dry erase boards? No, really. How much?!

Every team in the league has a shot at the playoffs but come on, let's be realistic. The Jays are most likely not going to make the playoffs this year. I hate saying it but sometimes the truth hurts.

I would love to see the Dome filled with 55,000 fans for a playoff game but I am willing to wait another year.

It is just so hard for the Jays to succeed now. They have to overcome not only the Yankees and Red Sox but now a third team, the Rays. Kind of hard to believe all three of those teams having off years and the Jays having career years.

But hey, did anyone in the world believe the Rays could make the World Series just a year ago today?!?!?!?!

Side note about the JP thing. I know they don't have tons of money to throw around but why not try and follow the path of the Red Sox GM and sign some 1yr contracts that could potentially turn into a huge return. It is only a 1yr commitment.

I think management has conceded that realistically, it's not worth it to spend this year--this is our 'gain experience' year and 2010 is now the target.

That said, that video got me stoked. Go Jays Go!

I'm excited.

With Cito behind the bench, how could you not be.

CITO FOR PRIME MINISTER.

I still have us as a 92 win team this year, which is a step down from the 92.5 win team we were last year, but we're still in good shape.

@ PPP: I'll give you props on that comment, but you still need a shot to the head.

@ The Ack: Pieces, indeed. And let's just let the "trade Doc" talks be the elephant in the room. Please.

@ 93: Renew those tickets, buddy!

@ 40: Much love for that video, bro. It's a beaut.

@ Ian: We ordered a flex pack last season, and it was part of the renewal package they mailed. It's hype.

@ The Reverend: Amen to your comment. Like Ian said, don't stop believing. Not until the very end. We're going down with the ship.

@ Chemmy: No.

@ Dani: Dry erase boards are one of life's pleasures. But I'm not erasing that. Not until the Jays are mathematically eliminated from post-season play.

@ Fantasy: It ain't JP. Rogers doesn't want to pony up cash, even if it is just a one-year commitment. Oh, and fuck realistic. I'm a dreamer.

@ Escaped: I'll see you on opening day. Can you bring your lab coat? Winson will wear it.

@ The Rev: "Fuck the truth." Truer words have not been spoken. Go Jays.

@ 25th: I'd vote for Cito.

@ Torgen: 92 wins. Imagine the freedom.

For the record, for the people that keep saying no one saw the Rays coming, Nate Silver saw it coming.
