I could have sworn John Smoltz said he wanted to retire a member of the Atlanta Braves.
I could have sworn Smoltz said he loved the city of Atlanta, and that the Braves were the only Major League Baseball team he wanted to play for.
Smoltz was the face of the franchise down in the ATL. A 21-year Atlanta veteran, solid in the community, and known as one of baseball's stand-up guys.
Today, he's a member of the Boston Red Sox. I guess shit happened, and Smoltz changed his mind.
Imagine that.

So wait, is this hypocrisy or not?
Not.
Just Sundin, got it. ;-)
Nope. Wrong again. I'll have a post up about Mr. Mats later.
And, I forgot to say earlier, Kyle Wellwood. That guy's good. More goals than any Leaf (tied with Poni) or Oiler.
Haha...all that really says is how bad the Oilers suck.
Well, the Oilers do have more points than the Leafs. But I guess, in the grand scheme of things, that's probably a good thing.
In the end it came down to two things, guaranteed money and a chance at a World Series.
Boston offered $5.5million guaranteed, Braves wanted something in the $1-2 range. To be honest, Braves most likely won't be winning the World Series.
I am very happy with this deal not because of the two parties involved but the fact that a smart GM can build a team that is going to contend for a World Series without having to spend $500million in one offseason.
On The Fence Sports
For the record, I still hate the Red Sox. Not as much as the Yankees, but still hate them.
I wonder how many Braves fans will start cheering for the Red Sox and hoping that they win the World Series.
I would bet 0.
PPP, the laws of probability suggest that there's got to be at least one. I mean, Smoltz was to the Braves what Mats was to Toronto, maybe more.
